The Sonic (Venturi) Nozzle is based on the principle that gas flow accelerates to critical velocity at the nozzle throat. At critical velocity, the mass flow-rate of gas flowing through the nozzle is the maximum possible for the existing upstream conditions. Because it has no mobile parts it is very stable, stress-resistant, and can be used repeatedly, with very low maintenance.
