Every metering installation environment deserves the highest data transmission security
Feb 23, 2009

With more than 3 million radio modules already installed worldwide in various types of installation conditions, Actaris acquired the complex radio transmission expertise required to collect meter data in the most diversified installation conditions.

EverBlu is bringing meter data directly to the utility’s office in a simple and reliable way, whatever the environment. This solution is already running in France, Spain, Brazil and Australia, proving its efficiency in various installation conditions, rural (villages), sub-urban or urban areas.

"EverBlu, dedicated to the collection and management of metering information, is opening a new generation of fixed network technology based on mesh radio architecture," explains Dominique Lerouge, Research & Development Director for Actaris Water & Heat. This solution is designed using a three-level architecture to offer maximum data transmission security: a Local Area Network between the meter radio modules and the collectors to access even hard-to-read meters while protecting battery lifetimes; a Neighborhood Area Network between the collectors and the access point, which the mesh architecture self-reconfigures in case of changes in the radio environment; and finally, a Wide Area Network using GPRS communication to upload data to the Host system.

Keeping in mind that simple implementation is a key issue, Actaris developed dedicated configuration tools to make the deployment easy, yet secure. Actaris offers its competencies through a complete service offering that ensures EverBlu will contribute to its customers’ future success: design of the optimum architecture, roll out of the solution, data integration in existing systems (Billing/CIS, GIS, SCADA, etc…), and continuous support that provides system efficiency through time.

"With all this data at hand, flowing directly from the consumers to the utilities, EverBlu helps our customers daily to give an answer to many of the challenges they face" says Javier Barella, Marketing Director for Actaris Water & Heat. "They manage more efficiently the delivery of water while optimizing customer services and improving customer satisfaction. Transmitted to advanced knowledge applications, such as a customer care application, data can be presented on the utility Web portal in order to affect customer consumption behavior and, therefore, encourage everyone to participate to sustainable growth efforts."
