Itron’s Meter Data Management Software Helps Automate the Collection of Data From 90,000 C&I Meters
LIBERTY LAKE, WA — 15 June, 2007 — Itron Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI), in collaboration with local partner Impianas Sdn Bhd, announced a contract today with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Malaysia’s largest electricity utility, for deployment of Itron Enterprise Edition (IEE) meter data management software. The installation of Itron MDM software is a key component part of the utility’s largest Remote Meter Reading (RMR) technology initiative that includes 90,000 Low Voltage C&I meters in order to automate meter data collection, analysis and billing process.
IEE Meter Data Management software is an enterprise data management solution that collects energy consumption information and builds a central repository of data that can be accessed and applied to optimise the efficiency of the electric distribution system. The software enables the consolidation and management of data from dissimilar meter devices. IEE enables TNB to collect, analyse and manage data daily from its population of C&I meters in a single place.. The installed system will enable TNB to introduce state-of-the-art technology in meter data management and customer service, while streamlining business processes and increase overall efficiency.
“Itron is very proud to partner with TNB in this major technology initiative,” said Paul Nelsen, managing director for Itron Australasia. “Automating the collection of C&I data allows TNB to better leverage valuable data in support of key business and service objectives.
“This project is an important part of Itron’s continuing growth strategy in the Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia regions, where the company is focused on expanding its presence in AMI, AMR and meter data management technologies.”
Impianas Sdn Bhd is Itron’s business associate in Malaysia and will provide full project management.
“This initiative will provide TNB with an end-to-end solution for remote meter reading,” said Fadil Helmi, general manager of Impianas Sdn Bhd. “It will equip TNB with a data collection and production centre, a disaster recovery centre, GSM as communication infrastructure and remote equipment at the meter sites of TNB Large Power Consumer (LPC) locations.”
Itron, TNB and Impianas executives had a ceremonial contract signing ceremony in Kuala Lumpur on 14 June, 2007 to celebrate the launch of this initiative.
