Does Itron International employ people of all nationalities?
Yes. Our 8,000 employees working in more than 30 countries are of many nationalities.

English is the official language and provides a link among all Itron people, although it is common to hear several languages spoken in a particular location, often including the local language.
Does Itron only hire fresh out college graduates?
No. Itron hires both recent graduates and mid – career professionals. However, as one of our key strategies is to recruit from college, then develop and promote within, the majority of opportunities are for new graduates. These will become our future technical / functional specialists or managers. Many senior executives started as new graduates.
However, Itron also believes strongly in hiring good professionals wanting to make a mid-career change. This brings in specialist experience, fresh ideas and new ways of resolving ‘old’ problems.
What kind of career opportunities does Itron offer?
Whether you wish to make a career in management or as a technical / functional specialist, you have the same opportunity for increased responsibility and career development.
Our policy of promotion from within and filling management positions from our ranks has been a major factor in both our financial success and our technological achievements. Similarly our decentralised management structure encourages the kind of individual initiative that leads to innovative solutions, personal recognition and high visibility.
Many career advisers believe that people should change jobs and companies every 3-5 years during the first 15 years of their career in order to develop the wide experience needed in senior management. We have followed this policy for many years. How quickly your career progresses is sometimes a matter of being in the right place at the right time but basically it depends on you and your performance.
There is no 'standard career path' or formal long term career planning in Itron. Individuals pursue their own path taking into account current levels of experience and desires for evolution, as well as such constraints as family needs, lifestyle aspirations and dual careers.
What educational and training opportunities exist?
With Itron, the learning process is continuous and no education ever really ends, because methods and techniques change, as do market conditions and regulatory guidelines. The real education of any employee begins, and continues, on the job.
Itron employees are expected to maintain the highest level of up-to-the-minute specialist knowledge whether acquired on the job or through special training programmes.
We support, encourage and sometimes even require our employees to continuously improve their education through internal programmes and external academic studies. There are obvious benefits for our companies and our customers, and , of course, obvious benefits for you and your career.

Are there opportunities to work on international assignments?
Yes. In the past we were a global organisation with local customers. Now that our utility customers are also becoming global organisations, however, many of our strategies must be aligned on a global basis. It is now normal for our Manufacturing and Research & Development project teams to include engineers working collaboratively in different countries. When specialist expertise is required there are opportunities for secondment on an international assignment. |
